Grounding Brakes for New Installation on Trailer

Question:

I have installed electric brakes on my small trailer. My trailer already has a 7 way plug wired into a seven lead junction box. I am attaching my brakes to the blue wire. Do I only need to attach the ground wire to the trailer frame? Am I correct in assuming the frame is already grounded? All the lights work perfectly.

Helpful Expert Reply:

You can route the grounds from your brakes to your junction box like part # 38656 but most people just ground the brakes to the trailer frame. The frame is a ground which is why this can be done, just make sure that it is a secure connection to a clean surface.

Your brake assemblies will have 2 wires that are the same color. It actually doesn't matter which wire you use for power and which one you use for the ground.
