How To Charge a Trailer Battery Used for Winch On a Car Trailer

Have a winch and battery system on a car trailer. Interested in recharging the battery from the towing vehicle when traveling. Do you offer a voltage regulator that controls the amperage that is being pulled from the towing vehicle during the recharge cycle?

In order to charge the trailer battery via the vehicle battery/alternator you are going to need a bit more than just a voltage regulator because there needs to be a system in place that can sense when the vehicle battery is getting low so it can then stop the charge, prevent the trailer battery from being overcharged, and stop the charge when the vehicle is then turned off as the vehicle battery is no longer receiving a charge from the alternator. These features can be obtain with the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger part # 331-BCDC1225D. The Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger has three different charging algorithms (Boost, Absorption, Float) and you can install a solar panel later down the road if you wanted.
