Using the Carpod Cargo Carrier on a 2006 Ford Mustang With a Class I Hitch
Question:
Is there an adapter that will allow the Carpod to be used on a 1.25 inch, class 1 hitch? Or, is ther another carrier with higher walls that can be used on a 1.25 inch? I need to transport firewood and it would fall off all of the other carriers.

We do carry the Hitch Adapter, part # HTAD, that will allow a 2 inch shank to be used on a 1-1/4 inch receiver. Any time an adapter is used on a trailer hitch the tongue weight capacity is reduced by 50 percent. You will want to check the tongue weight capacity of your 2006 Ford Mustang and of your trailer hitch. You should never exceed the tongue weight or gross trailer weight of the lowest rated component.
You will want to take the lowest tongue weight capacity between your car and hitch and reduce that by 50 percent. All of the trailer hitches we carry for your vehicle have a tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs and that would be reduced to 100 lbs with an adapter. The Carpod Cargo Carrier, part # M2200, you referenced weighs 54 lbs and would only leave you with 46 lbs of tongue weight capacity. We do not carry any other open cargo carriers with taller walls.
The best option we have available for your 2006 Ford Mustang would be the Reese Cargo Carrier, part # 63155, with ratchet straps, part # 34413, to secure the firewood. I have included a demonstration video for you to view to see if this would be suitable for you.
