For your 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel Long Bed, I recommend using the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit part # RP30035. This is by far our most popular option for your Ram and the instructions which you will need to follow for installation are very detailed. There are not any custom fit kits available for your Ram therefore a universal option like the above will be your only choice. If you just need the above bed rails then you can use the Reese Universal Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches part # RP58058.
