Is Equipment For Flat Towing Vehicle Behind an RV Vehicle Specific

Im evaluating subcompacts to tow behind a 1995 Europa Honda Fit, Hyundai Accent, and Kia Rio. [manual trans]. My question - is towing equipment specific to the make/model/year?

The short answer is some of the equipment is, some isn't. Typically, to flat tow a vehicle you'd need the following:

Base Plate Kit- certainly vehicle specific.
Tow Bar- not vehicle specific
Safety Cables- not vehicle specific
Wiring Solution- Some vehicle specific plug and play options available, many universal or semi-universal options.
Supplemental Braking System- not vehicle specific, although there are some tailored for motorhomes with air brakes.

The wiring and braking kits will sometimes call for some specific accessories like a 12-v outlet kit, a brake lamp relay, fuse disconnects or stoplamp switches, and the need for those can be specific to the given vehicle.
