Best Trunk Mount Bike Rack for Ground Clearance On a 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Question:

I use a Thule trunk mounted bike rack. I have it adjusted to the recommended number 7inch when using it. My bike has about 6 inches of clearance and my wifes bikes front tire actually scrapes on the ground. We are using a Sarris bike beam for her bike. Any idea how to get additional clearance. Thule told me it is not safe to move from 7 to a different number. I use this on a 2012 Hyundai Elantra sedan. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you might be using the Thule Passage 2 Bike Carrier part # TH910XT or one similar which as you have come to find out does not offer the best ground clearance on your 2012 Hyundai Elantra. A much better option for you would be to use the Yakima FullBack 2 Bike Rack part # Y02634 which as you can see in the attached photos of an older version just like the Fullback, that it offers much more ground clearance than the Passage. This will be the best option you have save for installing a trailer hitch and hitch mounted bike rack. There should not be any ground clearance issues though with the Yakima FullBack due to how it sits on the vehicle.
