What Causes the Blue Screen Issues On the Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera  

Question:

Any relief from Hopkins on a blue or black screen on my monitor. Purchased in July 2018. Order number 106751658. Problem started in July. Have been checking all connections with no problems found. Reviews indicate water on the control board as the problem. Is this accurate. I have not removed the back cover to see if any damage on the control board. Please let me know as the features of this product is exactly what I was interested in, but refuse to purchase another unit if this is what I can expect for life expectancy of the unit. Is there any relief from Hopkins. Thanks

Yes, the seal for the camera on the Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera and Hitch Aligner System part # HM50002 is not that great so moisture can get inside and ruin the circuit board. If you take the back cover off and try to clean the board that may fix this but otherwise your only option is to replace the unit. For this, a much better investment would be the Rear View Safety Backup Camera System part # RVS-778718N which also eliminates the need for a separate monitor on your dash. Historically speaking, these hold up much better than the Hopkins Smart Hitch.
