Which Direction Does Head of Weight Distribution Need to Tilt to Add More Spring Bar Tension
Question:
Tilting the head of the weight distribution hitch towards the tow vehicle will help level the load out more? On my first trip my truck was still squatting some and the ride was a little bouncy, when I leave if I loosen the large bolts holding the head to the shank, adjust the tilt of the head more to the truck and tighten everything back up I should get less squatting... is that correct?

Expert Reply:
If you tilt the head of the weight distribution towards the front of the vehicle that will lower the amount of spring bar tension as that angles the bars more upward. If you go the opposite direction you end up adding more distance between the chain hangers and the bars which means it requires more force to pull them up into position which then translates to more spring bar tension.
To reduce the sag you have you'll want to til the head towards back of vehicle/trailer.
