Trunk Mounted Bike Rack that Fits 2015 Toyota Prius V that Doesnt Put Weight on Spoiler
Question:
Hello. I am looking at the Thule TH910XT rack. It clips the straps to the very top edge of the hatch back door and to the bottom of the door. I think that will work but the upper straps, that carry most of the weight, will drape over the spoiler at the top of the hatch back where the 3rd brake light is. There could be a lot of weight from the bikes and the carrier e.g. weight of carrier + 2 bikes is ~70 lbs pulling down on the spoiler and Im concerned if the spoiler is attached strongly enough to handle it. ???

With trunk mounted bike racks like the Thule Passage part # TH910XT the upper straps do carry a decent portion of the rack and bike's weight but it's actually the lower mounting pads that carry most of the weight. With that said Thule thoroughly tested the Passage on your 2015 Toyota Prius V and determined that the spoiler was capable of handling the weight of the rack and bikes but I do have a different option you might be more interested in.
The Hollywood Racks Over the Top part # HRF2 is also a fit for your vehicle and was designed for vehicles with spoiler like yours and is able to fit around the spoiler and not put any stress on it at all.
