Why Cant 2019 Audi Q7 Use Weight Distribution System

Question:

I purchased a 2019 Audi Q7 to tow a 5,000lb. - 6,000lb travel trailer. The vehicle has a 7,700lb. towing capacity, with a maximum of 770lb. tongue weight. While I read here and other places that weight-distribution trailer hitches are the best invention since sliced bread, my users manual specifies to NEVER use a weight-distribution hitch, saying the vehicle was never designed for such a hitch. Do you recommend adding any type of sway control to the hitch since weight-distribution is not allowed?

Helpful Expert Reply:

The reason a 2019 Audi Q7 cannot use a weight distribution system is because the hitch that fits, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13277, is not rated for use with a weight distribution system; I can only render a guess but it is likely the OEM hitch is also not rated for use with one of these systems. The reason for that is the amount of torque on the hitch and where it is installed on the vehicle puts too much force on for the hitch to withstand.

What I strongly recommend as an alternative to weight distribution is a sway control kit, the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 which is absolutely compatible with the a hitch that cannot be used with weight distribution like you have on your '19 Audi Q7.

This kit will provide you with the benefits of a more relaxed ride because you won't experience the sway you otherwise would without it; you would only need the Reese Sway-Control Bracket for 2" Ball Mounts # RP26003 to attach to your ball mount to use with the kit.

I have added links to video reviews for you to check out as well.
