For your 2012 Ford Explorer you will first want to determine whether you have a 7-way connector or a 4-way connector at the back of your vehicle for your trailer wiring connection. If you have a 7-way connector then you will want to purchase the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter, part # 3035-P, in addition to the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885. This adapter will plug into the connector attached to the brake control wires from the vehicle under the dash. I have included a demonstration video for you to view when attempting to locate your vehicles brake control wires.
If your 2012 Ford Explorer has a 4 way connector at the rear of the vehicle for the trailer connection, you will still want to purchase the plug-in wiring adapter, # 3035-P, but you will also need the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole, part # 37185. This will allow for the additional leads for the brake and power. I have included an installation video for you to reference to determine if you need this additional 4 pole to 7 pole and 4 pole adapter.
