How to Correct Squeak in Dometic Rain-Sensing RV Vent with Fan

Question:

Hi! I have Dometic rain sensing fan on my airstream and it makes a squeak when it starts up. We use this fan a lot as an exhaust while cooking. My guess is that I need to apply some de-greaser or lubricant to the fan component but i dont want to ruin it. Any advice? Thanks,

If your Airstream's Dometic powered vent has a visible accumulation of soils from regular use keeping the trailer free of cooking odors then you can certainly clean the fan blade and other accessible surfaces. It sounds like the squeak is coming from the fan motor itself, though, so for that I suggest a very light application of WD40 or a similar lubricant.

If the squeak reliably stops after a moment or two then to be perfectly honest I would do nothing to the fan/vent other than clean its accessible surfaces. If you can see a labeled lubrication point on the motor housing then use a little light oil in that opening; otherwise apply a small drop to the motor shaft so it can work its way into the motor.

If you wish to tell us your actual vent or motor part number we can check with Dometic about appropriate corrective steps for the squeak.
