Replacement Rooftop Air Conditioner for Carrier V Setup
Question:
2007 Keystone Z II On shore power this unit turns on the fan for a minute or two before the compressor kicks in. The start up sounds a little rough, but it runs and cools the RV. On generator power twin Honda EU2200s when its time for the compressor to start it simply shuts off. There is never any additional demand on the generators that you would normally expect when an AC starts up. I am okay replacing the unit but if I can get by with replacing just the top or bottom, I would prefer saving some cost. Please advise.

I am not sure if you are aware or not but there is a significant increase in power requirements when starting a rooftop air conditioner. For example, the 15,000 Btu Advent Air RV Air Conditioner requires almost 5,000 watts upon startup if not using a start capacitor. The Honda EU2200's would only produce 4,400 watts so this might be your issue. Therefore, the solution to this problem would be to install the Start Capacitor for Advent Air RV Air Conditioners part # ACMSCKIT which brings down the starting watts required.
If you have already been using your Honda EU2200's with the rooftop air conditioner then I would agree the issue would be with the actual rooftop air conditioner but a service center would be the only ones who could confirm this for you after running tests as it would be just speculation without having this done. If you need a 15,000 Btu Advent Air RV Air Conditioner then you can use part # ACCAR150 as this will work with your Carrier Setup.
