Installing a Brake Controller in a 2016 Ford F-150 with Factory 4-Way Flat Connector

Question:

I have a 2016 Ford F-150, would like to install a brake controller and the 7-way trailer connector, for electric brakes on my dump trailer 5900 lb loaded. I have the 4 way flat connector in the back, but no wires in the back to plug the 7-way connector into, so Im thinking that I will need to hard wire to the battery and brake controller. Thinking of going with a Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 and the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires - ETBC7 . I did find the factory built-in connector beneath dashboard driver side. Do I need the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - 22292. to plug into this factory built-in connector, since Ill have to hard wire from 7-Way to brake controller, or do I hard wire into the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - 22292? Please let me know what I need and how to wire it, so I can the items I need on order. Thanks

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885 that you referenced. This is one of our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes.

To install it requires the install harness part # 22292 and it'll be wired up minus a few connections you'll have to make under the vehicle frame.

If you check out the picture I attached you'll see where to find the trailer wiring under the rear of your 2016 Ford F-150. The two wires pointed out are the ones you'd need to extend to a 7-way like the part # 37185 instead of the # ETBC7. The blue one is the brake output and goes to the blue wire of the 7-way and the orange goes to the black wire. Your current 4-way then plugs into the 4-way of the # 37185 and you'd be good.
