Solution for Towing 5th Wheel Trailer With Bed Shorter Than 6 Feet

Question:

I have a Ram 1500 with the 5'7 inch bed, I am wondering if a gooseneck conversion will allow for better turning over a regular fifth wheel hitch?

No, a gooseneck conversion will not allow for better turning clearance than a 5th wheel hitch. In fact, the best thing (and only way) to safely tow a 5th wheel trailer with a Ram that has a bed less than 6 feet is with a Sidewinder and fixed fifth wheel hitch.

There may be a Sidewinder that will replace the pin box on your trailer, but to find the correct Sidewinder what you will need to know is the manufacturer and model number of the pin box on your fifth wheel and match that with the correct replacement. For example, Sidewinder # RP34FR will replace Lippert 0719, 1621 and 1621HD, as well as Fabex PB 600 Series (68200) pin boxes. If you let me know the manufacturer and model number of your pin box I can find the correct Sidewinder for you.

I have added a link to our entire selection of Sidewinders for you to take a look at as well as a help article on Sidewinders you may find useful.
