Fitting Trailer with 3500 lb Axles with Brake Assemblies and Hub/Drums

Question:

Jameson, appreciate the quick response. Went out there again and took the spare off to get some better measurements without the studs in the way. If you say its 5x4.5 I believe you just wanted to make sure I am ordering the correct part. From these measurements it looks like the if I just go from center of one hole to center of the next closest its right at 3", center to center of opposite holes seems to be at 4.75", and the measurement straight across from one hole directly across to the other side is right at 5". I have also attached pictures for reference.

Based on the brake mounting flange dimensions you have you can easily install brake assemblies like the # AKEBRK-35-SA which will bolt right up. The trick though is going to be picking out the correct hub/drums for your spindles so that we can then pick the correct brake assemblies. Before we get into that though this does not add additional width to the trailer axle.

Since you said you have 3,500 lb trailer axles with a 5 bolt pattern the most likely hubs you'd need are the part # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K which the brake assemblies mentioned are correct for but I will go ahead and describe how to determine this either way.

In order to pick out the correct hub assembly for a trailer you are going to need know a few key pieces of information. The first thing you will need to know is the bolt pattern of your hubs. This is so you get a hub that is compatible with your wheels. I attached an FAQ article on determining bolt pattern for you to check out.

Next thing you will need to know is what spindle you have on your trailer. In order to do that you can either get the inner and outer bearing numbers from a hub or use a dial or digital caliper to get exact measurements of the spindle. The measurements needed are the parts of the spindle where the bearings ride.

You would want to first select the bolt pattern that you have, next select the inner bearing you have, followed by selecting your outer bearing, and then all the correct hubs will be listed.

5 on 4-3/4 inch is a standard bolt pattern which it looks like you have. The correct hub/drum then that you'd need is the part # AKHD-5475-35-EZ-K instead.
