Can Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger 331-BCDC1240D Accept Fixed Voltage Alternator Input
Question:
Good day, Is here any reason why I could not connect the BCDC1240D 40 AMP charger directly to a fixed voltage alternator for input power? I have a small Honda engine with a direct drive to a 65 AMP 12si fixed voltage alternator for 12 volt bulk charging battery banks. The BCDC1240D would be a great addition to using it for different battery chemistry. Thank you.

Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1240D is designed to accept 12V input power from either an unregulated solar panel, a battery or an alternator. It is perfectly fine to connect it to your 65-amp alternator. I confirmed this with my contact at Redarc.
The # 331-BCDC1240D is recommended for charging battery banks of 200Ah or more; for smaller setups you can use # 331-BCDC1225D.
