Any Problems w/Sharp Turns or Reversing with Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution and Sway Control

Question:

Is there any problems with sharp turns or backing with this type hitch set up? Looks like the bar could fall out of the sway control bracket on a sharp turn or bind while moving backwards?

If you were using the old friction style sway control like in the Reese SC system, 66155, you will want to disconnect the spring bars when backing up or in bad weather. When backing up with friction sway control, the bars can bind and can damage the trailer or vehicle. In bad weather, the force of the friction created can actually cause the trailer to skid. The new Steadi-Flex system, # RP66560, is fine in those conditions so you would not have an issue using it.

If a system is not installed properly a tight enough turn while moving forward could cause the bar to bind or come off. But if the system is installed according to the installation instructions, linked for reference, then the bars will not become disengaged from the brackets.

I have included a link to our FAQ on weight distribution for you.
