The Curt Echo Brake Controller, # C51180, does not require a constant WiFi connection to work. It actually connects to your wireless device via Bluetooth, but it also doesn't require a constant Bluetooth signal either. If your wireless devices loses its Bluetooth connection, then the brake controller will still work in the last setting or profile that it was connected with.
For example, if you are using your phone to connect to the Curt Echo, you can still use your phone without having the Echo app open. You could make a phone call, use a GPS app or if you are like me, you let your kids watch a movie or video in the back seat on your phone to keep them from terrorizing each other.
This brake controller will also let all of your trailer connector signals through including running lights, turn signals, brake lights and the battery charge circuit. You won't need any other parts to start towing with electric brakes other than possibly a dash mount for your phone. I went with the Scosche Vent Mount, # 332-MAGVM2.
