Is It Okay to Tow 8K Trailer with Toyota Tundra That Has a 10K Towing Capacity

Question:

10k max towing capacity. 8k 5th wheel. Is being that close to the capacity gonna kill my truck??

Whenever you creep up close to a truck's towing capacity the travel experience is going to suffer, even though it's technically still safe and within the manufacturer's restrictions. Having a 2,000 pound safety margin through still leaves you in a pretty good spot with your Tundra and I wouldn't expect these kinds of issues with your setup.

With that being said I do still recommend adding some enhancement to the rear axle to help relieve the factory suspension of some of this weight and also provide you with a more comfortable ride during travel. This is a good idea regardless of the trailer's weight. For your 2015 Toyota Tundra the Timbren Springs # TTORTUN4 will work perfectly. These heavy-duty jounce-style springs will simply replace the factory bump stops on the truck to help stabilize it when under a load and extend the life of its suspension.

These are a simple bolt-on installation and don't require any kind of maintenance once they're in place. I have attached a short video review that you can check out as well.
