Impulse Trailer Brake Controller Shows Inconsistent Display and Can Not be Set to 30

Question:

I have had the controller for two years and it has been working fine. I hooked it up last weekend to use and the controller read all kinds of different readings it went from 2 to 5 and then 55 and it would not go any higher. I normally use it at 30 but was unable to get it even close. Nothing has changed since it was new, Its connected with the proper connection harness and it is on a 2007 Ford F 150.....Thanks

The first thing I recommend is to engage the manual override on full and then let it snap back into place. Do this several times to clean out the contacts inside the controller. Next, make sure that the trailer and vehicle side connectors are clean and free of corrosion. Corrosion can build up in the connectors but also behind them where the wires connect.

There could also be a problem with the trailer brake magnets. I have included a link to an FAQ article that covers how to test the brake magnets.

What does it mean when it flashes SC?

The "SC" error message indicates a short circuit somewhere on the wiring. Try to inspect the blue brake output wire as far as you can back to the 7-Way to see if you can find any exposed or damaged sections that need to be replaced. You can also inspect the 7-Way connector itself for any corrosion that needs to be cleaned out.
