How to Determine Correct Replacement Slipper Springs
Question:
This boat trailer appears to have the wrong length slipper springs. Slipper top radius extends well past the slipper bracket and tire is centered well to the rear of the fender. How do you determine the correct length of slipper spring that should be installed?

Expert Reply:
What happens to slipper springs over time is they elongate and flatten, which is exactly what seems to be what happened with your springs, as opposed to the wrong length being put on (that is, of course, possible, but less likely).
You can replace your springs but there are a few things you need to know, starting with the weight rating of the axle; from there you need the length of the center eye to the end of the spring while taking into account the fact your springs have elongated. The width of the spring is the other important factor.
Once you know these things you can follow the link I added which has our entire selection of slipper springs, or you can let me know what those specs are and I can try to find the best option for you.
I have also added a link to a help article on trailer slipper spring suspension which I strongly recommend checking out.
