Prodigy P2 SH Error Code Troubleshooting
Question:
Hi, I installed the Prodigy P2 into my 2019 Toyota Highlander by following the instructions on your video. I tested it several times and all pins showed positive contact. I checked it on my travel trailer and all was good. We went on our first trip and it worked well on the drive out. But, when i went to hook up to come home today it showed the error code SH and I was getting a short/popping sound at the battery of the camper. I disconnected the battery of the camper, but the SH code remained. The controller seemed to operate the trailer brakes as it always has, showing the numbers for the brake power but the code flashed the whole way home. Once home, I tested the 7 way on the car and all pins beeped as they should except for the pin in the 5 oclock position...it made a buzz sound. I see that the SH code means the brake wire sees short during idle condition. What exactly does this mean? Which wire is it referring to? i am not looking forward to retracing all that wiring, so identifying the suspect wire would really help.

SH code indicates a short on the brake output circuit of the vehicle and trailer wiring when at idle like you mentioned. The specific wire you will need to inspect is the blue wire from the controller which is also the 5 o'clock pin of the 7-way you mentioned as well. So since you have an issue with a tester plugged into the vehicle wiring on this circuit that would indicate a problem with the vehicle wiring. So somewhere between the trailer connector and the blue wire of the brake controller there's an issue. Most likely it's either right behind the trailer connector or it's right where the brake controller wiring attaches to the vehicle.
