Should Thule T2 Pro XT with 1-1/4 or 2 Shank be Used for BMW 328Xi and Ford F-150

Question:

Hi, I have a Ford F150 with a 2inch box receiver. My wife drives a BMW 328Xi. While we intend to use the Ford to transport the bikes most of the time we may want to use the BMW. Should I consider the smaller rack to allow fitment into an eventual hitch on the BMW and use an adapter assuming one is available when I need the Ford?

Since there are no 2" trailer hitch receivers for your BMW 328Xi (whether you have the 2008 or 2013 that was in the fitguide search) your best option is to go with the Thule T2 Pro XTR 2 Bike Platform Rack # TH23JV which has the 1-1/4" shank and then use the Hitch Reducer # HT02 for when you plan on using the bike rack for your Ford F-150. This adapter is small enough that it won't reduce the weight rating of your Ford trailer hitch which is why I recommend going with this option.

If you are open to other bike rack options that come with an adapter I recommend the Kuat Transfer # KU74FR. This is another great bike rack that weighs about 5 lbs less than the T2 Pro XT but it also has a lower bike weight capacity at 40 lbs per bike. The great thing about this bike rack is that it features the U-Shaped frame which makes it easier to load your first bike. This comes with a limited lifetime warranty.
