What is the minim length of straight tube that is needed to mount this coupler?

The minimum length of 3 inch wide channel tongue needed to mount the Buyers Products Straight Tongue Trailer Coupler # 3370091562 is roughly 6 inches. The reason for this is the coupler's bolt hole spacing, as all three bolt holes do need to be used to maintain the coupler's 15,000 lb capacity.
