How To Wire Taillights To Motorcycle Carrier Behind Trailer

Question:

I am adding some additional temporary light for tow on my rv. My motorcycle rack blocks my regular tail lights. So I bought these three wire led taillight. The light have red, white and black wires. My green and yellow Ive connected to the black wires on the lights. The brown wire is connected to both red wires on lights. And wire is ground to both lights. The turn signals and brake work fine without the vehicle lights turned on. When headlights are on the new additional light no longer work. Even for turn signals or brake lights. Ive tried running an additional grounding wire to the frame but with same results.

It sounds like you have the Optronics LED Trailer Tail Light part # STL78RB or something similar and in which case, the red is actually for the stop/turn circuit so that will need to be attached to the yellow/green wires on your RV. The black wire is for the running light circuit and will need to be attached to the most likely brown wire. That said, whenever a circuit cuts off when another is applied that is almost always a ground or overdraw issue. The grounds will each need to be secured to a bare metal surface but if you have confirmed this then you may need to unplug the taillights behind the motorcycle carrier to ensure you are not overloading the circuits.
