Troubleshooting Wheel Bolts Coming Loose on Fulton XLT Trailer Jack
Question:
Hi: I have a 1 year old Nitro Z19 which came with a Fulton XLT trailer jack on its trailer. I am the original owner and have not misused the unit. I have noticed that two bolts that are located right above the lower wheel and seem to keep attach the wheel to the upper unit continually require tightening. The situation started after 6 months of use. There is significant back and forth play in the wheel unit even after a single trailering trip of 40 miles. I have been careful not to overtighten these bolts but am worried that the bolts may work themselves loose and result in the lower wheel falling off during a long haul journey. Any recommendations?

I reached out to my contact at Fulton regarding the problems you're having with the two screws holding the caster for the Fulton XLT Trailer Jack # F141133 in place. He said he has not seen this before but it's definitely not normal. He said the two screws should be 1/4-28 and snug fit to the threaded holes on the jack. There isn't a particular torque spec that needs to be used but they should be tightened until snug.
If the screws continue to back out like this my contact said it might be something that falls under warranty, especially considering the age of your jack. I recommend contacting them directly if the problem persists.
