How to Test to Confirm Function on Trailer Wiring in 2007 Chevy Silverado
Question:
Help wireing. 2007 chev trailer plug wireing.

Expert Reply:
Auto makers do change wire colors on occasion but when we had a 2007 Silverado here we did note that the pigtail wiring at the rear bumper used the following wire color-to-function assignments:
WIRE COLOR FUNCTION
Dark Green Right Turn/Brake Lights
Yellow Left Turn/Brake Lights
Brown Tail Lights
White Ground
Light Green Backup Lights
Blue Trailer Electric Brakes
Red/Black 12 Volt auxiliary power
If you have a circuit tester like # PTW2992 or # PTW2993 you can test each wire to see what function appears on it. Have a helper activate a function, say the left turn as an example, and test each wire until you confirm the one that has that on-off blinking signal. Once you confirm the function write this down or label the wire. Continue the process until you know exactly what each wire does.
If you need to connect a 7-way socket like # PK11893 you can use pigtail harness # PK11998. Or if you want to directly wire a 7-way vehicle socket to your vehicle wiring you can instead use part # PK12-707E. The linked article on vehicle and trailer wiring will help you complete the installation.
