Connecting Solar Panel and Controller to Battery in Horse Trailer
Question:
I had somebody put a solar panel on the roof of my horse trailers to run my interior lights when its not hooked to my truck but they never finished the job so Im trying to figure out how to finish this job myself I have the solar panel hooked to a solar controller which then hooks to the battery. Im just not sure how I can connect it to my interior lights do I just hook it to the light switch? Or does it need its own switch and all wiring through all the lights so it doesnt interfere when its plugged into the truck

Expert Reply:
A complete solar power system that includes the panel and the solar controller, such as our Go Power Overlander Solar Charging System # 34282181, connects to your RV battery. The panel and controller deliver charging power to the battery, not directly to your trailer lights. It is not necessary to run new/additional wiring to the lights; they will function off the battery power as they did before the unfinished solar installation was done. The controller will prevent overcharging of your battery (or bank of batteries).
