Usually a 5th wheel tailgate such as the Stromberg Carlson item # VG-100 that you referenced will fit certain specific trucks. This item fits the following older Ford vehicles:

1987 - 1991 Ford F-150, F-250, F-350
1992 - 1996 Ford F-250 and F-350
1997 - 1997 Ford F-250 and F-350 Heavy Duty
1992 - 1996 Ford F-150 excluding Stepside

Similar tailgate # VGD-02-100 fits Dodge trucks and part # VGM-99-100 fits GM/Chevy trucks.
