2011 Ram Power Wagon Transmission Cooler Recommendation
Question:
I am looking to add a Transmission cooler to my 2011 Ram 2500 Power Wagon with the 5.7 gas motor and auto trans. My 27foot 5th wheel trailer was causing some high temps upper 240-250 degree while hauling in the mountains of Colorado where I live. What trans cooler would you suggest for this application. I have plenty of room to mount a larger one in my grill and was leaning toward one with a fan. I was wondering what would be easy to adapt to my current lines and be a fairly easy install. I am fine will a little fabrication. I looked at my truck and it has a combination of metal and rubber lines going into a factory combo A/C and transmission cooler/radiator. Should I splice this new cooler into the return line of that system? Should I bypass that factory cooler and just run the after market or run both in series? Thanks for your help and advice.

The best solution we offer for a transmission cooler for your 2011 Ram 2500 with a 5.7 liter engine will be the Derale cooler part # D13504. This is a larger cooler at 11" Wide x 12" tall x 7/8" deep and is one of the most efficient as well so it's going to do a great job lowering your transmission fluid temps. Since you have plenty of room for this in front of your radiator this would be better option than a remote cooler with a fan as you won't have to wire up a fan and you'll gain basically the same cooling power. The remote coolers are better for vehicles with limited room in front of radiator or vehicles that will be travelling too slow to have enough wind to pass through.
Your best way to route this would be to run the factory cooler return line to the Derale so that you get the benefit of both coolers.
