Installing Brake Controller on 2005 Silverado Using OEM Brake Controller Pigtail
Question:
I bought a 2005 Chev. silverado pickup and need a brake control. I have a wiring pigtale that came with the truck. It has a connector to plug into the truck but the other end has just the loose wires. Can I wire them direct to the controller or can I buy just the connecter?

The brake controller pigtail that came with the truck can certainly be used to install the controller. If your brake controller has bare wires exiting the rear, you can indeed wire the controller directly to the pigtail. The wire colors WILL NOT match up color for color, and would connect as follows:
Red wire on the pigtail to black wire on the controller
Light blue pigtail wire to red controller wire
Black pigtail wire to white controller wire
Dark blue pigtail wire to blue controller wire
The brown pigtail wire is for an illumination circuit. It is not needed, and can be bundled up out of the way.
I have linked you to an FAQ article that will walk you through the install process.
