Grounding Dexter Self-Adjusting Brakes To Trailer Frame
Question:
I have installed new Dexter self-adjusting brakes but the braking is very weak. I have driven around and braked to “set” the brakes after initially adjusting them after installation, but they are still very weak. Heather suggested grounding the brakes. How do I do that? The only brake wiring it the two wires going to the magnet.

Expert Reply:
You want to ground whichever wire you use from the magnet as a ground now to a clean bare metal surface of the frame on all of the assemblies. Trailer brake magnets are not polarity sensitive so it doesn't matter which wire but since you already have your trailer brakes wired, just make sure you don't cut the power wire instead. You also want to make sure the main trailer ground is properly grounded to a clean bare metal surface.
