Can I Install Base Plate On 2011 Ford Explorer With Westin Grill Guard
Question:
I have a 2011 Ford explorer with a newly installed Westin Sportsman grille guard and am wanting to be able to tow it behind our RV. Would a Blue Ox or Roadmaster baseplate work on this vehicle with the grille guard?

I took a look at the installation instructions for the Westin Sportsman Grille Guard part # 40-3625 for the 2011 Ford Explorer and the base plates available for the 2011 Ford Explorer. The base plates for the Explorer such as Roadmaster Base Plate Kit part # 40-3625 or Blue Ox Base Plate Kit part # BX2632 install in the same spot as the Grille Guard so they are not compatible. You would need to remove your grille guard in order to tow with a base plate.
If you decide you would like to flat tow you will need a base plate, tow bar, safety cables, wiring kit, supplemental braking system and possibly a high low adapter. Please let me know if you would still like to flat tow the Explorer and I can assist you with more parts.
