A weight distribution system is designed to redistribute some of the trailer's tongue weight up to the front axle of the tow vehicle. This helps level the vehicle when towing but you shouldn't feel like the rear of the vehicle is getting lifted when you are slowing down. You may have too much spring bar tension if that's the case or are using a system that's rated too high for your tongue weight if that's what you are experiencing.
