Troubleshooting RV Tail Lights Not Working
Question:
I am currently working on a 1976 Layton camper. The drivers tail light was working and the passenger side was not. I tried connecting a new light to the passenger side and it still did not work. The driver’s side is no longer working either. The running lights all around the top of the RV are working. It’s just the brake lights that aren’t. When I tested with a multimeter, I got a reading from the hot wires on both the driver and passenger side. Any ideas what’s wrong with my passenger side and why my drivers side just quit on me? Thanks!

This sounds like a classic case of a ground problem to me because all the other lights are working and you are getting power readings. A bad ground can cause all sorts of issues and for your brake lights only not working, so what I recommend is ensuring your ground wires are attached to bare metal surfaces and free of any paint, dirt or corrosion.
