Comparing the Converters To Use for a Third Brake Light On a Trailer
Question:
Wonder if you can help clarify. There seem to be different and conflicting answers to this common question. My situation is this: 2015 F150 with 7-pin harness connected to 2016 Jayco that has incandescent tail/turn lights single bulb I believe. I want a multi-diode LED strip to mount up high. I want just a brake light but if there was a way to have a combo brake/turn signal light up high, then that might be better, but more complicated. Ive been told that this part PP20-702 is best, paired with something like the STL80RB. But Ive also seen expert advice to use the 118158 for this, and then Ive also seen advice definitely NOT to use that, since it apparently doesnt work well with an LED third brake light. Can you help? And is there a better wiring diagram for this part PP20-702? I use the yellow TURN wire from each taillight to send the green BRAKE signal to the 3rd brake light?

In the past, the Vehicle to Vehicle Tail Light Converter part # 118158 was recommended to isolate the stop light signal when installing a third brake light. However, this was not the purpose of the converter so certain lights would cause issues because there was not power detected on the green and yellow wires leaving the converter. Unfortunately, we really didn't have any good advice for when or when not the converter would work correctly for a particular light unless we could test this our self which is why we then began to offer the Pacer Performance 3rd Brake Light Logic Module part # PP20-702 which is designed specially for isolating the stop light signal for a third brake light and it works with LED lights so this is absolutely what I recommend for you to use with a light like the Optronics Streamline LED Trailer 3rd Brake Light part # STL80RB. The Pacer Performance 3rd Brake Light Logic Module is rated for 1.5 amps and the Optronics Streamline LED Trailer 3rd Brake Light only draws .216 amps so you will not have any power issues.
I have attached the only diagram I have of the Pacer Performance 3rd Brake Light Logic Module for you but if you need more help just let me know.
