Do I need the red wire on the 7way adapter

The red wire coming out of the 7-way on the Curt Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # C57186 is for the reverse light circuit. If you do not have this function or don't want to use it then no, you do not have to and can simply tie it off.
