Converting Trailer with A-60 Surge Coupler to Electric Brakes

Question:

I have a boat trailer with surge brakes that I absolutely hate and am looking into converting to electric. The current coupler is a Dexter a-60 and I want to replace it with a straight style coupler as easily as possible, as in not have to do a bunch of extensive cutting and welding to the front of an otherwise perfectly fine trailer. Would this coupler width wise slide into the existing mounting bracket for the a-60? My hope would be to only have to drill a few holes to be able to bolt it in place after I remove the old components

The Titan Zinc-Plated, Leverlock Coupler # T4845000 that you referenced is designed to fit on a trailer tongue that measures 3 inches wide. If you measure the width of the insert portion of your surge coupler and it's 3 inches wide this will easily fit in place of it. The other option is to fuse the coupler you have now. You basically could run long bolts through the outer and inner sections of your current surge coupler and you would have turned it into a fixed coupler.

I also attached a link to a page that has info on adding electric brakes to a trailer for you to use as a guide for your conversion as well.
