Trailer Light Fuse Blows After Tail Light and Wiring Harness Install
Question:
Hello, I recently purchased a used 2003 Haulmark 6x12 enclosed trailer. I had to replace the 4 pin on the trailer wiring and both rear taillights. I replaced the old taillights with newer LED lights. I am having an issue with the trailer lighting blowing a fuse, the drivers side taillights, which is causing my trailer lights to not operate. I replaced the fuse and had the same issue. I am wanting to know if replacing all of the incandescent side marker and clearance lights with LED’s would help my electrical issue? If so, which lights would you recommend for my trailer? I have attached a photo for your reference. Thank you.

The incorporation of LED lights would not cause a fuse to blow as they will draw less power from the vehicle's trailer lighting circuits than incandescent lights would. Since you mentioned that you just installed a new wiring harness and tail lights that would be the first place I check as you most likely have a wire shorted out which is then causing an overload on the circuit. The first thing to do is check that you have the grounds secured for both the tail lights and the trailer connector. Once this is done you will then need to start tracing your wires while checking for any shorts.
