What PSI Should Trailer Tires be Inflated To

Question:

My radial trailer tires have a max load of 1820 at 50psi on the sidewall. With two 3500lb axles my trailer is rated at 7000lbs. With an approximate load of 3000lbs and a trailer weight of 1600lbs I’m still 2400lbs under my max gvwr yet at 50 psi all four tire seem to ride very low with what looks like excessive bulge on the lower sidewall. Any thoughts?

Helpful Expert Reply:

Trailer tires need to run their max psi listing on the sidewall at all times to ensure you get the full weight capacity and prevent premature failure. Your tire capacity is 7,280 lbs since you have four of them which is somewhat close to your 7k trailer GVWR but not close to the weight you state that you tow at. Without seeing how much bulge you have it's hard to say if it's normal or not, but some bulge when a trailer is loaded is not uncommon at all.
