Trimming Truck Bed Mat for 5th Wheel Rails or Double Mat for Clean Appearance

Question:

Ive seen a couple answers saying you can trim the BedRug and other bed mats to cut-out around 5th Wheel Bed Rails, which should work well when the hitch is installed, but has anyone come up with a solution for when the hitch is out of the truck to cover the bed rail leaving a relatively smooth surface when the bed rails are exposed? I found one post where someone used two bed liners with the bottom one being cut and then, when the hitch is removed, placing the second un-cut liner over the top. Functionally this works, but you double your cost and end up covering one of the mats, so then you need to decide if you want the better mat surface exposed or covered, depending on use. My thoughts in using a thick mat cut around the rails, but with pieces made to fill the cut-out and snap in covering the rails.

The bed rails are traditionally 1-1/8 inch tall like the Reese Universal Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - 10 Bolt # RP58058. If you were to double up bed mats like # BMQ99LBS you would be above the rails but you also would have a slight divot in those rail locations. That is the cleanest look and feel I've heard of.

I'm not aware of any covers that are currently available for those rails.
