Considerations for Changing Passenger Vehicle Tire Size

Hi there to whom it may concern I ihave a Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2017 I want to change my tire size but I do want to keep the same rims which is 17 in My current tire size is 235/65R17 I would like my tire to be slightly wider and taller Trying to do some research and see if its possible To make my tire slightly wider and taller on the same rim which is R17. Ive came across some information that it is not recommended to modified your tire size thats all but it is possible to do if you will say as close as possible to the same tire size with no more then 3 medication. Ive tried to use tire size calculation websites to figure out what my tire size will be if I want it wider and taller from 235/65R17 but no more than 3 To be honest with you I got confused with tire size calculations. I came across your website and I was Wonder if you will be able to answer this question for me. Thank you in advance I appreciate any help you can provide it or answer.

We do not sell passenger vehicle tires, only special trailer (ST type) and some light truck (LT type) tires, but I can still address your question.

Some vehicles will be offered with several tire size options from the factory. We show that a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe can be equipped with either 235/55-19 or 235/60-18 size tires. If your Santa Fe Sport has 17-inch rims these may have been installed by the dealership.

It is important to have enough clearance around the tires so you can make turns without the tire contacting any parts of the vehicle and also for the normal up-and-down motion of the car's suspension. Auto makers are the ones that get to decide what tire sizes are safe to use with their vehicles and I recommend consulting with your local dealership.

Your current 235/65R17 tires have a width of 235mm (or 9-1/4-inches) and an overall diameter of 29-inches. The two stock tire sizes noted above have the same width and their diameters are only very slightly different, both just over 29-inches.
