How to Tow a 5th Wheel Trailer Using a 2017 Ford F-250 Short Bed with B&W Turnoverball

Question:

I have a 2017 F250 FX4 4 door Short bed with built in step. Have BW turnover gooseneck adapter with hi rise ball on truck. 2015 Grand Design 29rs31 ft came with a 6021 adapter with Rv series 9inch offset gooseneck coupler set at the highest setting. I clear the truck bed, but hit the cab on turn. What can I use to get the required clearance so I do not hit the cab? Companion slider? Different 5th wheel setup?

The best option for your 2017 Ford F-250 is going to be to use the B&W Companion Slider Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter part # BWRVK3400. The B&W Companion is largely considered to be one of the best 5th wheel hitches on the market. The reason for this is because it has 1" thick dual locking jaws which take almost all chucking out of the equation and it's cam action release handle will allow you to uncouple the trailer on uneven ground.

The slider mechanism on the B&W Companion will move the pivot point 12" back which should then allow for you to clear the cab on your F-250 during a tight turn. It's 19" max height setting should also ensure you don't have any bedside clearance issues either. Unfortunately, you can't really use a 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter on your trailer with a short bed truck because as you have come to find out they just don't provide the needed clearance. These adapters are also a good way to void the frame warranty on your trailer therefore I really think you should consider the B&W Companion as your best option.
