Troubleshooting Redarc Tow Pro Brake Controller Install in 2011 BMW X5
Question:
I ordered a TowPro Elite and installed it into my 2011 BMW X5 that has a factory tow package. After installing the TowPro I have been unable to get it to calibrate It should be a completely seamless/unattended process according to their doc. I took the vehicle to BMW and was told BMWs are generally incomparable with brake controllersinch which seemed shocking to me since the factory harness has a connection for a brake controller! I am looking for some guidance on whether there is something bout the BMW brake controller harness that would prevent this controller from working.

Can you verify that the four wires of the Redarc # RED44FR are installed properly? Most likely the issue is on the red wire as that's the part of most installs that gives people the most trouble. Make sure the red wire is connected to a circuit that has 12 volts when the brakes are applied and none when they are released.
Typically this circuit can be found on the stoplight switch of the vehicle. You can test with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to help find this as well.
