Parts Needed to Triple Tow with 5th Wheel and Boat Trailer

Question:

We have a 2016 RAM 2500 6.7 liter. We have a 28 foot 5th wheel that we pull. We just bought a 23 ft crownline 1994 boat. Out side of state laws, is there anything special required to pull both? The 5th has a hitch/receiver.

As you mentioned in your question the first thing you will want to check is the laws in each of the states you plan on passing through to make sure it is legal to triple tow. You should also verify the capacities of both the hitch and your 5th wheel's bumper/frame to make sure it's rated sufficiently for towing along with the capacity of your Ram to make sure it can handle the total weight of both trailers.

Other than that you will just need the same type of equipment you have on your Ram with the exception of a brake controller assuming the boat trailer features surge brakes. This includes a trailer hitch (which you already have), a trailer wiring harness, and ball mount/hitch ball combo.

For a trailer wiring harness the Tekonsha 4-Pole Hardwire Kit # 18252 will work well. It includes a circuit tester that you can use to ensure you are making the correct connections on the 5th wheel trailer. This will provide you with a 4-Way to hook up to the boat trailer so you can activate its basic signal lights.

Then for a ball mount you will just need to make sure you choose one with the appropriate rise or drop to keep everything level. I have attached a great article that explains how to do this along with a link that will take you to our available selection.
