What Causes Trailer Sway at 65 Miles Per Hour
Question:
Hello! I am towing an Aliner Expedition with a 2016 Toyota Tacoma SR5 with tow package. I noticed that I have to keep it around 65 mph max or else I get sway from the camper. What do you recommend for sway control? Thank you!

Persistent sway that occurs at a certain speed won't be cured with a sway control device or a weight distribution system. These systems are designed to stop sway that starts from a gust of wind or a passing semi. The type of sway you are experiencing is due to a tongue weight issue or a suspension component issue.
In nearly every case of what you described the cause of the sway is not enough tongue weight relative to the total trailer weight. You need between 10 and 15 percent of the total trailer weight as tongue weight and most likely you just don't have enough. If there's anyway to move weight forward in your trailer you should try that first. Also make sure the trailer is sitting as level as possible when towing. If the trailer is sitting nose high sometimes that can cause sway too.
Also check the suspension components for anything that looks worn out or has too much movement and fix as needed.
