Recommended Fixed Mount Hitch Compatible with Ram Pucks with Sidewinder Pin Box on Trailer

Question:

New truck and slider hitch I have a 2017 Dodge Ram 3500 Megacab shortbed dually with the in-bed puck towing system that has a Reese 20K Pro Series square tub slider hitch installed. I just purchased this truck.. My 5th wheel trailer has a Reese Sidewinder king pin box installed and wondering if I should replace my slider hitch with one that is fixed to allow the sidewinder to do its job, or pin the sidewinder and use the slider hitch? What would you recommend? Replace the slider hitch or pin sidewinder so that it doesnt rotate? I also have a PullRite Industry Standard Super5th 16K 5th Wheel Hitch that I used in my 2500HD Silverado as well. Thanks!

For your new truck, I recommend changing out the legs of your hitch and utilizing the Sidewinder. This will not only give you better turning clearances, but will also make it easier to load and unload your hitch. You will use the Replacement Base Legs # RP30727.

It sounds like you must already have the rail adapter from the factory pucks to the rails for that hitch, but if not you will use the Reese 5th Wheel Rail Adapter for Ram OEM 5th Wheel Towing Prep Package - 25,000 lbs # RP30154.

If you prefer a hitch upgrade that gives you the legs made for the pucks, then the Reese OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Ram Towing Prep Package - Single Jaw - 20,000 lbs # RP30918 is a great option with the # RP44FR wedge kit. If it were me, I'd sell the PullRite and the ProSeries and then get the best hitch for your truck which is the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Ram Towing Prep Package - Dual Jaw - 25,000 lbs # BWRVK3600. This is consistently sought after as the best hitch for ride quality and durability year after year. It will fit your pucks and then you can use custom wedge # SWW-06 with your Sidewinder for the very best connection.
