Installing Brake Controller on 2004 Ford Explorer With or Without Factory Tow Package
Question:
Will this plug right in to the port and where is it located

The Hayes Engage Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 3 Axles - Time Delayed # HA81760 will plug right into your dash if you have the factory 7-way when you use wiring harness # HA81783-HBC. The connection point on your Explorer is behind the glove box on the passenger side.
If you have the factory 4-way then you can use the wiring harness # HA81789-HBC which is a pigtail and then use kit # ETBC7 to complete your wiring. If you don't mind cutting the harness, you can avoid the pigtail and hardwire the controller. I've attached a video of this installation to assist.
