Thule Swing Away Vertex Bike Rack Recommendation for Access to Toyota Tacoma Tailgate

Question:

Will the tilt angle allow the tailgate of a pickup to open fully? In my case it is a Toyota Tacoma

I believe I have something that would work for you, but I spoke to my contact at Swagman and he informed me that this TrailHead Rack # S63360 would most likely interfere with you opening the tailgate of your Toyota Tacoma. But since it has never been tested on your vehicle (as far as we know) we cannot say with 100% certainty if it will or not.

What I can guarantee will work for you would be a bike rack that swings away giving you complete access to your tailgate. Check out the Thule Vertex Swing 4 Bike Carrier # TH9031. This is one of the nicest racks we offer because of the swing away feature, arced rack arms for ease of bike loading and cushioned anti sway cradles. I attached a review video for you to check out also.

Will the swing away TH9031 fit on my 2010 Toyota Prius -? What about the Drag? Will it pull too much on the the car? how bout cutting down on gas mileage? Is there a 2 bike model? How much does it weigh?

The Thule Swing-Away is only available in a 4 bike configuration. It also has to be used on a 2 inch which are not available for Prius models. The hitches available for a 2010 Toyota Prius are Class I, 1-1/4 inch hitches. The offer a 200 pound tongue weight capacity. That means the combined weigh of the rack and bikes must be less than 200 pounds. Also, the Prius probably has a lesser tongue weight rating, listed in the owners manual. If that is the case, that lesser rating must be followed. For Prius, I would look for a light weight rack, preferably made of aluminum. Kuat bike racks and the Thule Helium Aero come to mind. I have added a link to all of the 2 bike racks we carry that will fit the kind of hitch available for your Prius.
